In this article from the first set of photos you can see that from a good
set up position at the halfway back stage the shaft angle is now too low as
it should in a correct position point at or inside the ball to target line.
Whereas it is actually pointing outside of that line. Now what normally happens
from this position is that the arms are too low when the top of the backswing
is reached. So this would also be termed as a flat backswing.
If this is your problem then here is a drill to help you to improve the line of your backswing and create a higher position at the top of your backswing.
1) Place an umbrella into the ground in line with your right heel and two feet to the right of it.
2) Take the club halfway back missing the umbrella (if you hit the umbrella keep repeating this movement until you start to miss it and get the feel for the correct movement). Now you can see the shaft is pointing more inside the ball to target line.
3) Then turn your shoulders and arrive at the top of your backswing in a
much more orthodox position. This will allow you to get the club back down
on a better line into the ball and hit your shots a lot straighter.
